How far is it to Bethlehem? Not very far. Shall we find the stable room Lit by a star? Can we see the little Child? Is He within? If we lift the wooden latch May we go in?

about

This is a compilation of traditional, perhaps lesser-known Christmas carols and original music (mostly in the form of original fiddle tunes).

The album itself follows the Christmas story, particularly from Mary's perspective, and considers the question of who Jesus is.

The first song on the album, "magnificat," is an instrumental composition we wrote as a meditation on Mary's experience with the angel through to her visit to Elizabeth. The second track, "the cherry tree," is an old carol of which many versions are preserved. We compiled a few versions we liked, and were especially influenced by those preserved in the Newfoundland folk tradition. The album culminates with the final track "how far," an arrangement of the carol "How Far Is It To Bethlehem." This was found in an old Salvation Army church carol book, and is the track from which the album gets its name.

Have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season!
